Petals & Clay was born from both lived experience and decades of professional practice in the beauty and wellness industry.
I began my career in the beauty and wellness industry in 1998. For years, I trusted and used professional and luxury skincare lines—until my body began to say no. In 2004, I developed severely reactive, sensitive skin. Products I had relied on for years suddenly caused allergic reactions. Even high end makeup triggered eczema, swelling, burning, and relentless itching.
For a long time, I believed the problem was me, not the products.
As the years passed, my condition worsened. The eczema spread to my hands, which were exposed to lab created products for hours each day in a spa environment. Eventually, my skin became raw and bleeding. No prescription offered relief. I wore cotton gloves just to function, and at one point I had to stop working entirely to allow my hands to heal. As an esthetician, I felt lost, my skin could no longer tolerate the very products I was trained to use.
That turning point led me to explore the natural world.
I began studying holistic healing, lifestyle choices, and the impact of ingredients on the skin and nervous system. As I simplified my diet and daily rituals, I discovered the profound healing power of herbs, clays, and minimally processed botanicals. My skin slowly began to recover and so did my sense of purpose.
In 2008, I opened an apothecary style spa centered around raw clays, herbs, and plant based treatments. This space became both a sanctuary and a testing ground: serving clients with sensitive, reactive, and compromised skin while deepening my understanding of how the skin responds when given truly supportive ingredients.
Petals & Clay was created from that hands on experience in the treatment room.
